Product Engineer

Job Description

This position requires knowledge and skills in a variety of engineering functions within the Engineering Department. Work assignments are broad in scope and require the use of independent judgment and initiative in making technical decisions.


  • Develops mechanical designs for development of roto-molded components, linings, aerospace assemblies, and containment tanks to meet customer requirements;
  • Designs and/or supervises the design of products, tooling, and fixtures related to roto-molded, injection molded, and metal fabrication processes;
  • Prepares or supervises preparation of detailed plans, specifications, and cost estimates for new products;
  • Analyzes and evaluates structural features, mechanical designs, and blueprints;
  • Create product structure (bill of materials, routing) for products designed.
  • Prepares work instructions as needed for production processes to ensure manufacturability and quality products;
  • Works with customers to evaluate and specify design requirements as needed;
  • Reviews and evaluates aerospace, ASME, and military specifications and details to ensure compliance for a variety of products;
  • Formulates and interprets standard specification language for mechanical engineering projects;
  • Acts as project manager on engineering projects;
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Knowledge of:

  • Diversified, fundamental scientific mechanical engineering concepts, phenomena, and relationships.
  • Development and derivation of formulas and relationships, basic assumptions made, and limitations and areas of applicability of established mechanical engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Aerospace, ASTM welding, and coded vessel design requirements and specifications desired, but not required.

Ability to:

  • Design in-house mechanical engineering projects using CAD tools.
  • Organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific engineering problems and prediction of results.
  • Keep abreast of changes in scientific knowledge and engineering technology, and utilize such changes in solution of theoretical or practical mechanical engineering problems.
  • Communicate orally in the English language with customers, clients, and the public using a telephone and in group and face-to-face, one-to-one settings.
  • Estimate labor or material costs from blueprints or work plans.
  • Produce documents written in the English language using proper sentence construction, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.

Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical. Minimum 5 years experience preferred. Experience using CAD applications for design, knowledge of Pro/ENGINEER or SolidWorks required.
